The Strain of Origin

Underlapper were recently involved in a collaboration between Sydney label Feral Media and Brisbane label loFly. The idea was to get a bunch of artists from each label and get them to remix each other and the results are amazing! Furthermore the release is available as a free download from the Feral Media bandcamp site:

We contributed a remix of Brisbane artist Aheadphonehome's track 'The Rattle' (which you can check out below) and our track 'Drinking Dust' got the remix treatment by Brisbane group Re:enactment.

New Weird Australia

A new Underlapper track entitled 'Elephant Shoe' has been included on the latest installment of the New Weird Australia download series.

The Final Two

Here are the final two album covers, which completes the series.

First listen

Here is a little taste of the new album. The track is called 'Drinking Dust' and features the wonderful Peter Hollo on cello.

Parades Remix

Here is a recent remix we did for Sydney band Parades. The original track is called Hunters and is taken from their debut album Foreign Tapes. The remix is available as a B-side to their single Past Lives on itunes.
I strongly recommend checking this album out, it is fantastic!

This is a test

We have just received the test pressing and we're super excited that our first foray into vinyl is becoming a reality!
All going well we should have the finished product very soon and if I can figure out how to upload an MP3 player onto this blog I will post one of the new tracks.

More progress....

As with the previous post these images show the final designs from a rough sketch posted a while back. These images are the front (top) and back covers (bottom).
The 5 designs are almost complete now and will go to print in the next week or so.
The album itself is about to be mastered and will go off to be pressed around the same time. Not long now!

Progress

In an earlier post there was a storyboard from one of the designers.
These images show the finished design with and without the scratch off ink layer.

Here we go again!

Here is the fourth installment of the vinyl art process.
This cover is complete except for the tracklisting, which will be finalised soon.
This design invites the owner to scratch off various parts of the artwork and add their own info.

Number three

Here is an early sketch of the third vinyl artwork.

In other news the album is in the final stages of mixing and will be sent off for mastering in the next couple of weeks.
The official release date is still pending but hopefully we will have confirmation soon.

These images form a storyboard from one of the designers. It is inspired by Bernini's sculpture The Ecstasy of St Theresa.

Vinyl Artwork

The following posts will contain images which depict some of the designers artworks and ideas so far.....
Basically we got together and decided that all of the designers would create an artwork based on a unified concept. Each artwork would contain a single colour image which would be screen printed onto a cardboard stock. An additional layer of scratch-off ink would then be applied, which when scratched off would reveal the complete original image.
As you can imagine the options are endless and each artist has been hard at work creating their own individual take on this quite clever idea.
So anyhoo, here is a taste of what's to come......Enjoy!

Hello all and welcome to the Underlapper blog, where you will find all things Underlapper and anything else we deem fit to pollute your mind with.
We have started this blog to chart the progess of our upcoming album 'Softly Harboured' which will be released on CD and as a limited edition LP with hand-made cover designs from some of our favourite artists.
